ATJ’s Event: Asian American Studies End-of-Semester Showcase

In the 2023 - 2024 academic year, Asian Texans for Justice (ATJ), in partnership with UT Center for Asian American Studies (UT CAAS) and Round Rock High School, piloted Texas’s first of its kind, year-long Asian American Studies elective course.

Dr. Wei attended the students’ end-of -semester capstone project showcase in Round Rock Public Library. There is no Asian American history course available in Texas. This pilot course is going to fill the gap, and hopefully it will become an official course soon. Students’ presentations and exhibitions were amazing, thanks to their hard work and the teachers’ great efforts. Throughout the event, students’ projects covered important historical figures and events in Asian American history, such as Bruce Lee, Vincent Chin, Chinese Exclusion Act, etc. It was a reflection and a perfect timing during AAPI Heritage Month.
